Melatonin is a naturally occurring substance in the body (known as the “sleep hormone”) found in many organisms, including mammals. Its levels are strongly influenced by the cycle of light and darkness. In humans, it is primarily produced in the pineal gland, from where it is released into the bloodstream. Melatonin is one of the most important regulators of sleep. However, the body’s ability to produce it gradually decreases with age. This can be considered one of the reasons for the increased incidence of insomnia in older adults and in people with reduced melatonin levels in the blood.

Why is it beneficial to take melatonin?

Sleep Regulator

Melatonin levels are regulated by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus, which influences the pineal gland via neurotransmitters. Most of melatonin’s physiological functions are mediated by membrane receptors. The primary regulator is the alternation between light and darkness. During the day, light suppresses the endogenous synthesis of melatonin. Artificial lighting at night also suppresses melatonin synthesis. Repeated exposure to light at night leads to increased melatonin synthesis in the morning.

Sleep Hormone

The hormone is produced by the pineal gland (a part of the diencephalon) and is most commonly found in the brain, related neuro-organs, and the reproductive organs. The starting material for melatonin synthesis is the essential amino acid tryptophan. Melatonin is also produced in plants, where it acts as a defense against oxidative stress. Based on its chemical structure, melatonin can be classified, along with serotonin and catecholamines, as a phenolic hormone.

The fundamental purpose of sleep is the regeneration of cognitive functions. These abilities are essential for thinking and regulating the body. Sleep is also important for what is known as neuronal plasticity. This is essential for the formation of both short-term and long-term memory. Insufficient sleep, therefore, leads to impaired learning. At the same time, speed and accuracy also decline. For athletes, sleep is particularly important for muscle recovery, growth hormone release, muscle growth, and similar processes. Every professional athlete recognizes the importance of quality sleep.

Melatonin as a dietary supplement is still not widely available on our market, even though its effects are undeniable. Most products on the market rely on the tried-and-true “the more, the better” approach, but with melatonin, that’s not entirely true. Everyone should test their tolerance and needs by starting with smaller doses. It’s definitely not advisable to start with a dose of 4–5 mg per tablet; instead, begin with a lower dose of 0.25 mg and gradually test your tolerance. Peptan® Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides
Collagen peptides with a molecular weight of 2000 Da are enzymatically cleaved fragments of collagen that have proven biological activity. They nourish connective tissue cells and support their proliferation, act as a building material, and increase collagen production.

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)

Vitamin C
Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, teeth, and skin. Vitamin C (unlike other vitamins) has a logical purpose in this product.
