Betaine HCl 90 Capsules

This supplement contains betaine HCl along with gentian root. Each capsule contains 650 mg of betaine and 50 mg of gentian. Both betaine and gentian (Gentiana lutea) have properties related to stomach acidity and the production of stomach acid.

The stomach is a key organ of the digestive system. It produces hydrochloric acid and enzymes to break down and absorb nutrients from food. High stomach acidity also protects the body against harmful microorganisms. Stomach acidity is also essential for the proper functioning of enzymes. Low levels of stomach acid (hypochlorhydria) impair digestive efficiency, can lead to malnutrition regarding certain nutrients, and may cause digestive discomfort. The properties of betaine are also related to homocysteine levels.
