Betaine HCl 90 capsules

This supplement contains Betaine HCl along with gentian root. 1 capsule contains 650 mg of betaine and 50 mg of gentian. Both betaine and gentian (Gentiana lutea) have properties related to stomach acidity and stomach acid production.

The stomach is a key organ of the digestive system. It produces hydrochloric acid and enzymes to break down and absorb nutrients from ingested food. The high acidity of the stomach also protects the body from unwanted microorganisms. Stomach acidity is also necessary for the proper functioning of enzymes. When stomach acid is low (hypochlorhydria), the efficiency of digestion is impaired, malnutrition in terms of certain nutrients may occur, and digestive discomfort may occur. The properties of betaine are also related to homocysteine levels.
